Re: Camino by horse

About ten years ago i was walking from Pamplona to Burgos and came across a pair of horses doing the Camino. there was a rich guy from California and his guide from Pamplona who provided the horses. they were an odd pair. the yank quiet and reserved and the guide talkative ,outgoing and fun . The barely kept up with the walkers , but i saw them for a week every day . They slept until 8 but didn't leave till 10,then rested the horses from 1 thru 2 and arrived at the albergue about 5 . They horses had to be trucked around cities and they had to locate a barn for the night . the once were held up for a horse shoe and once with tainted feed. Except for me they really didn't form a friendship with other walkers.I know a bit about horses and made an effort to speak and help with the mounts.
i wouldn't advise riding a "hay burner" on the Camino. Too many dogs and some rought terrain unless you can get a small hunter.i'll send you a photo if you can send an EMAIL address-i could't attach on here. best wishes( i'll be there the end of May) darrell
