Hey,

If things remain this quiet I'm gonna have to hop on a plane and hit the camino myself.

If you are now walking please give an update! Volcano affect? Can you get a bed?

Speak! Hablame! Hablanos!

I have been wondering about the small number of postings as well. In 2006 - 2007 when I was planning my camino, this site was fantastically active. I obtained more information and encouragement from the enthusiatic responses to every question put forth by myself and other prospective pilgrims than from any other source.

I am wondering if the site is hard for newcomers to find - I did a Google search and discovered that I could find it if I used caminosantiago (one word) as a key word, but otherwise (using camino de santiago, way of st. James, etc) it was difficult to find a direct link. Is there a way for a webmaster to make the site more accessible? I think it's a shame that a new pilgrim can't easily come upon a link to this forum. The rich experiences and positive attitudes of former pilgrims, the readabilty, & the ease of searching the archives make it a treasure, and I would like as many individuals as possible to have the positive experience so many of us enjoyed as we planned our walks.

This site has also been a favourite with me and I miss the activity it used to have. However - things change and sometimes more sparkly things catch our attention.
Incidentally - speaking of sites - have you seen this one?

One interesting feature is that right at the top of the page it gives the number of pilgrims that arrive in Santiago each day( at the Pilgrims' Office)....1626 today!
Buen camino to you all- wherever you are currently on your path!

just returned from the Via de la Plata on May 30.

In April and May of 2010 there were 15 to 20 pilgrims in a village each night. No bed race, thank goodness, and I never got turned away from an Albergue that was all booked up.

By comparison, in April and May of 2006 there was up to 6 pilgrims in a village each night. Not all at the albergue, some choosing a hotel, hostel, or Casa Rural. (Easter 2006 was busy on the VDLP)

Heard rumors of long line-ups to receive your compostela, and to go through the holy door, hug the apostle, etc. However, I arrived at the Cathedral in the early evening and did not have to line up.

Rumors about the bed race on the Camino Frances are rampant. No factual accounts though. Maybe a pilgrim who has been their in May can let us know.

I'll be starting the Camino Norte in two weeks! I did the Camino Frances in 2005, and not a day has gone by that I haven't thought of returning. I like that I'm going this year and this route. I'm thinking it will be a great balance for me.

I really like the site Cecilia gives above! Those numbers are AMAZING and scary!

Keep a smile,
Simeon

HI David,
I second the congrats on your second completion of the Via de la Plata. Will you be speaking about it the next Victoria meeting? I'm just across from you on the mainland and would love to hear about your trip in more detail sometime. Your perspective would be particularly interesting after this second visit. Have you met others who have done the same?
