Is it really wet on the camino so far this year? Everytime I look a thte forcast it is rainning. Maybe its normal for the time of year. In 2006 there was very little rain in July/August.

I booked my flight for 2010. 30 days. Now very excited! Have most items packed.

Not sure I can shed much light, but perhaps this will help. I walked the Camino twice, 2003 & 2009, both times in September. In 2003 I had rain the first and last week, and none in the middle. In 2009, I had rain the third week, and none before or after. In 2003, the temperature was near perfect - 20 degrees C for the first and last 10 days, and 25 degrees C in the mesetas in between. In 2009, it was a very hot +35 degrees C for the first 10 days, a very cool 10-15 degrees C for the next 10 days, and a beautiful sunny 20 degrees for the last week. Also, a weather forecast which calls for rain can be anything from a light mist, which is quite nice, to a heavy downpour, all of which I experienced.

All of this is to say weather varies greatly, both as a general rule, and because the Camino covers several areas with distinctly different weather patterns. My advice to those who ask is to expect anything and you will be both correct and prepared.

Buen Camino.

I start the Camino Norte on Saturday! I'll let you know how it is on the coast.

Keep a smile,

Paul, I've just returned from Spain last week having spent weeks since mid April with groups who started in St Jean, Leon and Samos; have walked in torrential rain, in 37 degree heat and through a diverted section of the route in Galicia which was a quagmire and very dangerous. I've been bringing groups out there for 12 years and the weather imho has changed only in its extremity; you will always get heat especially along the meseta and rain is characteristic of Galicia but this year in April, May and June the heat is hotter & the rain heavier. Perhaps for me its just a form of atonement? Go as usual, prepared for everything.
