Bus schedules

Hello All,

I'm planning to walk the Camino from Roncesvalles to Logrono in July. I walked the entire camino once before in 2004. I'd like to fly in and out of Madrid. I was wondering if anyone had some up to date information on taking a bus from the Airport in Madrid to Roncessvalles, and then from Logrono back to Madrid.

any help?

Hi
As far as I know there is no direct bus or train from Madrid to Roncesvalles. It is, however, easy to get from Madrid to Pamplona either by train (www.renfe.es) or bus (www.alsa.es).
Many people just take taxis or hitchhike from Pamplona to Roncesvalles but I did find one link from 'fiona' on another site for Pamplona to Roncesvalles as follows:
"After much google-ing I have found the official online timetable of the bus services between Pamplona and Roncesvalles: [www.autocaresartieda.com] . I think it works with "pop-ups" as once you reach this page you then have to click on "linaes regulares" and then select the Jaurrieta-Pamplona service. Lots of services are listed; clicking on the details button at the far right edge gives the info about the days of the week that the service runs and the dates between which the details are or were valid. The site is only in Spanish and Euskara, but I found the Spanish version OK to follow. "
You have to follow her directions carefully but it does give a schedule. Please note that the above email was written in June 2008. Thanks to Ivan at [www.caminodesantiago.me] for the above information.
Buen camino, Cecelia

Thank you,

When I traveled in 2004 I had to take a bus from Madrid to Pamplona and then another from Pamplona to Roncesvalles. Last time I walked however, I did not stop in Logrono. Does anyone know if it will be easy enough to find a bus from Logrono to Madrid? (I do remember that the Albergue in Logrona had a really nice fountain to soak your feet in though...)

Thanks!

Hi again,
The train (renfe.es) goes from Logrono to Madrid leaving at 7:52am and arriving just after 11:00 and there are lots of buses that start at 6:45 and seem to leave every couple of hours or less. (Go to the alsa.es site). I've never found it necessary to book ahead but things could possibly be different this year.
Buen camino
